Are your workers inspecting the sling before use?
I am just back from a 3 day conference on the safe manual handling of people! One of the speakers was from the American Association of Safe Patient Handlers and they have produced guidelines on sling and lifter compatibility as well as inspection guidelines for sling use. The International Standard says that slings should be inspected before use and the lifter and sling should be load tested yearly. If something goes wrong and there have been multiple deaths reported from lifter use over the years will you be comfortable that your organisation has done everything reasonably practicable to prevent such an occurrence?
