Changes occurring in the NSW Workers Compensation area

Icare have announced changes to how they are managing the Workers Compensation Scheme in NSW. Click on the heading above for more information.

icare (insurance and care NSW) is the government body responsible for insurance and care services for injured persons in NSW.  icare has brought the management of new policies and premiums inhouse.  New businesses can now use the new self-service portal provided by icare to set up their own policy and pay their premium online. Later this year the portal will offer more sophisticated functionality, like the ability for businesses to gain insight into their performance and the support they need to achieve a genuinely safer workplace.

Icare will also offer businesses who’d like to talk to a person about their insurance needs flexibility of choice through access to their phone-based Customer Support Centre.

Icare have also created the Workers Care initiative to drive improved outcomes for the seriously injured and established the icare foundation to partner with third parties to prevent injury through targeted programs and invest in initiatives to overcome issues that can hamper recovery.

Icare will continue to manage workers compensation claims through Scheme Agents but CGU Workers Compensation has recently announced that they are withdrawing from the selection process for ongoing provision of these services.  Employers insured with CGU will be notified of the changes and icare will look at transitioning them to alternate scheme agents once the selection process is completed.
