Safe Work NSW has developed a consultation strategy in line with the WHS Roadmap and the Australian WHS Strategy 2012-2022.
Safe Work NSW has a vision that NSW workplaces will manage health and safety successfully through effective communication and consultation and have developed a consultation at work strategy with 3 main objectives:
- Build capabilities to consult through review and improvement of the HSR training courses, building HSR capabilities and building awareness and capability of NSW businesses. This does not mean that HSRs are the only mechanism for consultation but that effective consultation can be achieved through trained HSRs
- Build resources to improve consultation at work – plain English resources, best practice consultation case studies/videos and handouts and templates for running effective consultation are being developed and will be promoted.
- Build connections by improving communication with HSRs, develop feedback mechanisms to enable better communication between SafeWork NSW and business, HSRs and workers and engage other regulators and industry stakeholders.
